Fanaticism is an incurable disease in the world. It revolves around God,
religions, castes, blind beliefs and outdated concepts. Thanthai Periyar
used to advise us to ignore all the fanatics around us. On four different
occasions he spoke about such non-people and about small people in
big chairs. Let us lend our ears to him in this issue. Excerpts are from
his speeches recorded in ‘Kudi Arasu’ and ‘Viduthalai’.
From ‘Kudi Arasu’ – 15.04.1928
For centuries brahmin coteries have been taking our gullible people for a ride by making them believe in the existence of numerous non-existent gods and goddesses. Their survival instinct has been the root cause of this ploy. Under the names of hundreds of sages and saints religious scriptures were fabricated to deceive people. Most of them are unacceptable myths and fiction, full of obscene tales and disgusting narrations. People were persuaded to believe in incarnations of gods and goddesses; heaven, hell, rebirth, sins, salvation, retribution, recompensation etc; Our efforts to educate gullible people have all been in vain.
Religious Webs
Nature has bestowed reasoning power only on humankind but our people have not yet realised its glory. They have blindly accepted all the outdated codes of conduct thrust on them by self-centred selfish brahmin fanatics. Fear of retribution has lodged our people in the darkness of ignorance. Upper caste fanatics have been taking advantage of their low level of intellect. Religious webs such as Shaivam and Vaishnavam were spun to complicate further. None of the so called social reformers have ever tried to instil awareness in our people. We have been waging a lone war to reform our people. We would not rest until we succeed in our mission.

Our opponents have been circulating leaflets and pamphlets abusing us as wicked atheists. A few dailies and weeklies have been publishing articles and fabricated letters hurling damaging comments on us. All their insults role off our backbone. These small people are bent upon stifling our voice in vain. Ours is an invincible movement that would conquer without stooping. Our rivals are using vituperative language to humiliate us but we ignore them as usual. We know that their minds operate on the lowest level of intellect. Editors and reporters serving such periodicals do not even have the courage to write under their given names. They use pseudonyms and hurl abuses on us. We pity their cowardice.
Fabricated Fables
One group of fanatics venerates Shiva while another group reveres Vishnu as omnipotent gods. The fables fabricated by them are ludicrous. Most of them are unadulterated filth and absolute vulgarity. The authors quote Vedic texts and Upanishads in support of the contents churned out by them. Discourses by religious exponents are also intolerable pain in the neck for us.
Most of the fanatics frown at us over our comments on Ramayana and Mahabharata but they have no answers for our reasonable questions. They are unable to convince us with any acceptable explanation. Charges are levied on us that we are all irreligious atheists. These morons devoid of scientific temper must certainly be ignored.
Obscene Epics
Most of the epics fabricated by fanatics are full of obscene tales revolving around gods and goddesses. Adultery and incest have been justified without any qualm. The descriptions are all obnoxious and nauseating. How could such profane gods and goddesses help humans lead a righteous life on the earth? None comes forward to answer us. If god created human beings why does he abandon them and leave in the lurch? Why do people starve and suffer? Why are they crushed under the heels of the monster of materialism? I urge upon all these fanatics to stop pulling wool over the eyes of gullible people. I urge upon our people to nurture self-respect and stay away from baseless unscientific rubbish.
From ‘Kudi Arasu’ – 08.03.1931
Whenever I arrive in a town or city to deliver a speech, fanatics shut temples and arrange police protection fearing me and my cadres. News about my arrival spreads like wild fire before I begin my speech. I thank all my rivals for free publicity and unsolicited propaganda. I owe them all a deep debt of gratitude because they advertise my public speech well in advance and make people throng the venue.
Freedom of Speech
When I recently toured through Malaya, a group of religious fanatics requested the police department to prohibit my speech stating the reason that I would be criticising their epic Ramayana. The senior police officer advised them to convene a meeting and speak in defence of Ramayana. He refused to prevent my address. He further added that it was his duty to protect visitors from other countries, and that freedom of speech should never be curbed. My dear friends, I too urge upon you people here at this venue to listen to my speech and decide yourselves whether I am right or wrong. I have the freedom to voice my views. You have yours either to accept or reject. I shall never ever compel anyone to accept any of my views just because I am the speaker. I am not at all an unquestionable authority.
Ignore protests
I urge upon you all to voice your views without fear. Many people think that they have the
right to deny other people, their rights. This is unpardonable. Dear friends, never hesitate to question and also to question all the answers. Spirit of enquiry is the base of intellect. Ignore people who resist your questioning spirit. Mischievous people would always try to silence you when you disagree with them. Never bother about destructive criticism of other people. Lead your life on your own terms. Fanatics would always hatch plans to soak you in the drain of irrationalism. Stay away from such small people. Avoid superstitions at all times and safeguard your self-respect. Keep at an arm’s distance all the fanatics who indulge in birth based discriminations and degradations. Throw overboard all the outdated codes of conduct and march ahead. Rivals would always be there to hinder your progress. Smash all the obstacles with an unflinching resolve.
From ‘Kudi Arasu’ – 26.06.1932
All over the world voices reverberate promoting universal brotherhood, equality liberty and fraternity but there are still toxic forces who dehumanize people and belittle them. They are all to be ignored. The fanatics who cling to Varnasrama dharma and Manusmriti are bent upon demolishing the downtrodden people. I appeal to you all my dear cadres to annihilate the evil called caste. Until castes are eradicated and uprooted no transformation is possible in society.
Reforms required
Fight against women’s enslavement should continue by our joint efforts. We still have to go a long way in this particular issue. Gender bias must vanish and empowerment of women should flourish. Women should be granted all the rights on a par with men. They must be placed in coveted posts and positions. They should have property rights and literacy to the highest level. People who support slavery of women must be ignored. Women should never be considered inferior to men. Widow remarriages must be welcomed. Women should have the right to live on their own terms. This includes even divorce rights if there is incompatibility in their married life.
Untouchability should become a punishable crime. Temple entry should be the right for people of all castes. Birth based disparity must not exist anywhere. All the exploitations by the upper caste people must cease. Child marriages should be prevented and self-respect marriages must be encouraged. Those who protest against such reforms are fanatics to be ignored.
From ‘Viduthalai’ – 10.12.1973
My dear cadres, friends and well-wishers, I urge upon you all to fight vigorously against brahminocracy. This is the term coined by me to condemn caste supremacy of brahmin coteries. Ignore graded inequality thrust by fanatics. Always insist on “everything for everyone” principle. Never be scared of the threats from fanatics all around us. Be fearless at all times and march ahead. Your fight shold be silent – never violent. We must be a source of inspiration for all the states in India.
Unswerving Patience
We need enormous endurance to defeat all the fanatics who have been suppressing us. We are not interested in posts and positions. We do not crave for any sort of electoral benefit. Ours is a people’s movement. We shall always strive for the common people.
Today in this conference (09.12.1973) you people listened to the speech of Veeramani who spoke before me, condemning the fanatics who have been degrading the Tamil society. His excellent speech was indeed thought provoking. He has expressed almost all the views and thoughts of mine. I have nothing much to say beyond all that he has said. And yet, I speak just to please you all.
Dear friends, as I stated at the outset, let us all fight with unswerving patience and crush all the toxic forces. Excluding brahmins, four crore people in Tamil Nadu are non-brahmins, with the stigma of ‘Sudhras’! Even if ten thousand non-brahmins court arrest fighting against them, the fanatics, would all crumble. Let us all strive with collective efforts and prove that we are an invincible force. We shall never ever allow anyone to belittle and degrade us.

பெரிய நாற்காலிகளில் அமர்ந்திருக்கும் சிறிய மனிதர்களைப் பற்றியும் பேசியுள்ளார். இந்த விஷயத்தில் நாம் அவருக்குச் செவிசாய்ப்போம்.

பல நூற்றாண்டுகளாக பிராமணக் குழுக்கள், இல்லாத எண்ணற்ற கடவுள்களும் தேவதைகளும் இருப்பதாக நம்பவைத்து, எளிதில் ஏமாறக்கூடிய நம் மக்களை ஏமாற்றி வருகின்றன. அவர்களின் பிழைப்புக்கான உள்ளுணர்வே இந்த சூழ்ச்சிக்கு மூல காரணமாக இருந்துள்ளது. மக்களை ஏமாற்றுவதற்காக நூற்றுக்கணக்கான முனிவர்கள் மற்றும் புனிதர்களின் பெயர்களில் சமய நூல்கள் புனையப்பட்டன. அவற்றில் பெரும்பாலானவை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாத கட்டுக்கதைகளும் புனைகதைகளுமே ஆகும்; அவை ஆபாசமான கதைகளாலும் அருவருப்பான விவரிப்புகளாலும் நிரம்பியுள்ளன. கடவுள்கள் மற்றும் தேவதைகளின் அவதாரங்கள், சொர்க்கம், நரகம், மறுபிறவி, பாவங்கள், மோட்சம், தண்டனை, கைம்மாறு போன்றவை இருப்பதாக மக்கள் நம்ப வைக்கப்பட்டனர். எளிதில் ஏமாறக்கூடிய மக்களுக்குக் கல்வி புகட்ட நாம் எடுத்த முயற்சிகள் அனைத்தும் வீணாகிவிட்டன.
மத வலைத்தளங்கள்
பகுத்தறியும் ஆற்றலை இயற்கை மனிதகுலத்திற்கு மட்டுமே வழங்கியுள்ளது, ஆனால் நம் மக்கள் அதன் மகிமையை இன்னும் உணரவில்லை. சுயநலமிக்க பிராமண மதவெறியர்களால் அவர்கள் மீது திணிக்கப்பட்ட காலாவதியான நடத்தை விதிகள் அனைத்தையும் அவர்கள் கண்மூடித்தனமாக ஏற்றுக்கொண்டுள்ளனர். பழிவாங்கப்படுமோ என்ற அச்சம் நம் மக்களை அறியாமை எனும் இருளில் ஆழ்த்தியுள்ளது. உயர் சாதி மதவெறியர்கள் அவர்களின் குறைந்த அறிவுத்திறனை சாதகமாகப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்கிறார்கள். நிலைமையை மேலும் சிக்கலாக்குவதற்காக சைவம், வைணவம் போன்ற மத வலைகள் பின்னப்பட்டன. சமூக சீர்திருத்தவாதிகள் என்று சொல்லப்படுபவர்களில் எவரும் நம் மக்களிடையே விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த ஒருபோதும் முயன்றதில்லை. நம் மக்களைச் சீர்திருத்த நாங்கள் ஒரு தனிப் போரை நடத்தி வருகிறோம். எங்கள் இலட்சியத்தில் வெற்றி பெறும் வரை நாங்கள் ஓய மாட்டோம்.
ஒரு மதவெறிக் குழுவினர் சிவனை வணங்குகின்றனர், மற்றொரு குழுவினர் விஷ்ணுவை சர்வவல்லமை படைத்த கடவுள்களாகப் போற்றுகின்றனர். அவர்களால் புனையப்பட்ட கட்டுக்கதைகள் அபத்தமானவை. அவற்றில் பெரும்பாலானவை கலப்படமற்ற அசிங்கமும் முழுமையான ஆபாசமும் ஆகும். நூலாசிரியர்கள் தாங்கள் உருவாக்கும் உள்ளடக்கங்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக வேத நூல்களையும் உபநிடதங்களையும் மேற்கோள் காட்டுகிறார்கள். மதப் போதகர்களின் சொற்பொழிவுகளும் எங்களுக்குச் சகிக்க முடியாத தலைவலியாக இருக்கின்றன.
எங்கள் எதிரிகள், எங்களைக் கொடிய நாத்திகர்கள் என்று இழிவுபடுத்தி துண்டுப் பிரசுரங்களையும் சிறு பிரசுரங்களையும் விநியோகித்து வருகின்றனர். சில நாளிதழ்களும் வார இதழ்களும், எங்கள் மீது தீங்கு விளைவிக்கும் கருத்துக்களை வீசும் கட்டுரைகளையும் புனையப்பட்ட கடிதங்களையும் வெளியிட்டு வருகின்றன. அவர்களின் அவமானங்கள் அனைத்தும் எங்கள் முதுகெலும்பில் மோதாமல் போய்விடுகின்றன. இந்தச் சிறு மனிதர்கள் எங்கள் குரலை வீணாக நசுக்க முனைகிறார்கள். எங்களுடையது தலைகுனியாமல் வெற்றிபெறும் ஒரு அசைக்க முடியாத இயக்கம். எங்கள் போட்டியாளர்கள் எங்களை அவமானப்படுத்த வன்மமான மொழியைப் பயன்படுத்துகிறார்கள், ஆனால் நாங்கள் வழக்கம் போல் அவர்களைப் புறக்கணிக்கிறோம். அவர்களின் மனம் மிகத் தாழ்ந்த அறிவு மட்டத்தில் இயங்குகிறது என்பதை நாங்கள் அறிவோம். அத்தகைய பத்திரிகைகளில் பணியாற்றும் ஆசிரியர்களுக்கும் நிருபர்களுக்கும் தங்கள் இயற்பெயர்களில் எழுதக்கூட தைரியம் இல்லை. அவர்கள் புனைப்பெயர்களைப் பயன்படுத்தி எங்கள் மீது வசவுகளை வீசுகிறார்கள். அவர்களின் கோழைத்தனத்தைக் கண்டு நாங்கள் பரிதாபப்படுகிறோம்.
புனையப்பட்ட கட்டுக்கதைகள்
ஒரு மதவெறிக் குழுவினர் சிவனை வணங்குகின்றனர், மற்றொரு குழுவினர் விஷ்ணுவை சர்வவல்லமை படைத்த கடவுளாகப் போற்றுகின்றனர். அவர்களால் புனையப்பட்ட கட்டுக்கதைகள் அபத்தமானவை. அவற்றில் பெரும்பாலானவை கலப்படமற்ற அசிங்கமும் முழுமையான ஆபாசமும் ஆகும். தாங்கள் உருவாக்கும் உள்ளடக்கங்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக, நூலாசிரியர்கள் வேத நூல்களையும் உபநிடதங்களையும் மேற்கோள் காட்டுகின்றனர். மதப் போதகர்களின் சொற்பொழிவுகளும் எங்களுக்குச் சகிக்க முடியாத தலைவலியாக இருக்கின்றன.
பெரும்பாலான மதவெறியர்கள், இராமாயணம் மற்றும் மகாபாரதம் குறித்த எங்கள் கருத்துக்களுக்காக எங்களைக் கண்டு முகம் சுளிக்கிறார்கள், ஆனால் எங்கள் நியாயமான கேள்விகளுக்கு அவர்களிடம் பதில்கள் இல்லை. எந்தவொரு ஏற்கத்தக்க விளக்கத்தையும் கொண்டு எங்களை அவர்களால் நம்பவைக்க முடியவில்லை. நாங்கள் அனைவரும் மத நம்பிக்கையற்ற நாத்திகர்கள் என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் எங்கள் மீது சுமத்தப்படுகின்றன. அறிவியல் மனப்பான்மை அற்ற இந்த முட்டாள்களை நிச்சயமாகப் புறக்கணிக்க வேண்டும்.
ஆபாச காவியங்கள்
மதவெறியர்களால் புனையப்பட்ட பெரும்பாலான இதிகாசங்கள், கடவுள்களையும் தேவதைகளையும் சுற்றி வரும் அருவருப்பான கதைகளால் நிரம்பியுள்ளன. விபச்சாரமும் முறையற்ற உறவும் எந்தவித குற்றவுணர்ச்சியுமின்றி நியாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. அந்த வர்ணனைகள் அனைத்தும் அருவருப்பானவையாகவும் குமட்டலை ஏற்படுத்துபவையாகவும் உள்ளன. இத்தகைய புனிதமற்ற கடவுள்களும் தேவதைகளும் பூமியில் மனிதர்கள் ஒரு நேர்மையான வாழ்க்கையை வாழ எப்படி உதவ முடியும்? நமக்கு பதிலளிக்க யாரும் முன்வருவதில்லை. கடவுள் மனிதர்களைப் படைத்திருந்தால், ஏன் அவர்களைக் கைவிட்டுத் தவிக்க விடுகிறார்? மக்கள் ஏன் பட்டினியால் வாடித் துன்பப்படுகிறார்கள்? பொருள்முதல்வாதம் எனும் அரக்கனின் காலடியில் அவர்கள் ஏன் நசுக்கப்படுகிறார்கள்? இந்த மதவெறியர்கள் அனைவரும் ஏமாளிகளின் கண்களில் மண்ணைத் தூவுவதை நிறுத்த வேண்டும் என்று நான் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன். நம் மக்கள் சுயமரியாதையை வளர்த்துக்கொண்டு, ஆதாரமற்ற, அறிவியலுக்குப் புறம்பான குப்பைகளிலிருந்து விலகி இருக்க வேண்டும் என்றும் நான் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன்.
'குடி அரசு' நூலிலிருந்து – 08.03.1931
நான் சொற்பொழிவாற்றுவதற்காக ஒரு ஊருக்கோ அல்லது நகரத்திற்கோ செல்லும்போதெல்லாம், எனக்கும் என் தொண்டர்களுக்கும் அஞ்சி, மதவெறியர்கள் கோயில்களை மூடி, காவல்துறைப் பாதுகாப்பிற்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்கிறார்கள். நான் என் உரையைத் தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்பே, என் வருகையைப் பற்றிய செய்தி காட்டுத்தீ போலப் பரவுகிறது. இலவச விளம்பரத்திற்காகவும், கேட்கப்படாத பிரச்சாரத்திற்காகவும் என் எதிரிகள் அனைவருக்கும் நான் நன்றி கூறுகிறேன். அவர்கள் என் பொது உரையை வெகு முன்னதாகவே விளம்பரப்படுத்தி, மக்கள் அந்த இடத்திற்குத் திரண்டுவரச் செய்வதால், நான் அவர்கள் அனைவருக்கும் ஆழ்ந்த நன்றிக்கடன் பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.
பேச்சு சுதந்திரம்
நான் சமீபத்தில் மலாயாவுக்குச் சுற்றுப்பயணம் மேற்கொண்டபோது, மதவெறியர்கள் குழு ஒன்று, நான் அவர்களின் இதிகாசமான ராமாயணத்தை விமர்சிப்பேன் என்ற காரணத்தைக் கூறி, எனது பேச்சைத் தடை செய்யுமாறு காவல்துறையிடம் கோரிக்கை விடுத்தது. மூத்த காவல்துறை அதிகாரி ஒருவர், ஒரு கூட்டத்தைக் கூட்டி ராமாயணத்திற்கு ஆதரவாகப் பேசுமாறு அவர்களுக்கு அறிவுறுத்தினார். அவர் எனது உரையைத் தடுக்க மறுத்துவிட்டார். மேலும், பிற நாடுகளிலிருந்து வரும் பார்வையாளர்களைப் பாதுகாப்பது தனது கடமை என்றும், பேச்சுரிமை ஒருபோதும் கட்டுப்படுத்தப்படக்கூடாது என்றும் அவர் கூறினார். என் அன்பு நண்பர்களே, இங்கு கூடியிருக்கும் உங்களையும் எனது பேச்சைக் கேட்டு, நான் சொல்வது சரியா தவறா என்பதை நீங்களே முடிவு செய்யுமாறு கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன். எனது கருத்துக்களைக் கூறுவதற்கு எனக்குச் சுதந்திரம் உண்டு. அவற்றை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வதற்கோ அல்லது நிராகரிப்பதற்கோ உங்களுக்கு உங்கள் உரிமை உண்டு. நான் பேசுகிறேன் என்பதற்காக மட்டும், எனது எந்தவொரு கருத்தையும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுமாறு நான் ஒருபோதும் யாரையும் கட்டாயப்படுத்த மாட்டேன். நான் எந்த வகையிலும் கேள்விக்குட்படுத்த முடியாத அதிகாரம் கொண்டவன் அல்ல.
போராட்டங்களைப் புறக்கணிக்கவும்
உங்கள் கருத்துக்களை அச்சமின்றி வெளிப்படுத்துமாறு உங்கள் அனைவரையும் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன். பலர் தங்களுக்குத்தான் அதிகாரம் இருப்பதாக நினைக்கிறார்கள்.
மற்றவர்களின் உரிமைகளை மறுக்கும் உரிமை உங்களுக்கு உண்டு. இது மன்னிக்க முடியாதது. அன்பான நண்பர்களே, கேள்வி கேட்கவும், எல்லா பதில்களையும் கேள்விக்குட்படுத்தவும் ஒருபோதும் தயங்காதீர்கள். விசாரணை மனப்பான்மையே அறிவின் அடிப்படை. உங்கள் கேள்வி கேட்கும் மனப்பான்மையை எதிர்க்கும் நபர்களைப் புறக்கணியுங்கள். நீங்கள் அவர்களுடன் உடன்படாதபோது, விஷமக்காரர்கள் உங்களை அமைதியாக்க எப்போதும் முயற்சிப்பார்கள். மற்றவர்களைப் பற்றிய அழிவுகரமான விமர்சனங்களைப் பற்றி ஒருபோதும் கவலைப்படாதீர்கள். உங்கள் வாழ்க்கையை உங்கள் சொந்த நிபந்தனைகளின்படி வாழுங்கள். மதவெறியர்கள் உங்களை பகுத்தறிவின்மை எனும் சாக்கடையில் மூழ்கடிக்க எப்போதும் திட்டங்களைத் தீட்டுவார்கள். அத்தகைய அற்பர்களிடமிருந்து விலகி இருங்கள். எல்லா நேரங்களிலும் மூடநம்பிக்கைகளைத் தவிர்த்து, உங்கள் சுயமரியாதையைப் பாதுகாத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். பிறப்பின் அடிப்படையில் பாகுபாடுகளையும் இழிவுபடுத்தல்களையும் செய்யும் மதவெறியர்கள் அனைவரையும் ஒரு கை தூரத்தில் வைத்திருங்கள். காலாவதியான நடத்தை விதிகள் அனைத்தையும் தூக்கி எறிந்துவிட்டு முன்னேறிச் செல்லுங்கள். உங்கள் முன்னேற்றத்தைத் தடுக்க போட்டியாளர்கள் எப்போதும் இருப்பார்கள். அசைக்க முடியாத உறுதியுடன் எல்லா தடைகளையும் தகர்த்தெறியுங்கள்.

உலகம் முழுவதும் உலகளாவிய சகோதரத்துவம், சமத்துவம், சுதந்திரம் மற்றும் ஒற்றுமையை ஊக்குவிக்கும் குரல்கள் எதிரொலிக்கின்றன. ஆனாலும், மக்களை மனிதாபிமானமற்ற முறையில் நடத்தி, அவர்களை இழிவுபடுத்தும் நச்சு சக்திகள் இன்னும் இருக்கின்றன. அவர்கள் அனைவரையும் புறக்கணிக்க வேண்டும். வர்ணாஸ்ரம தர்மத்தையும் மனுஸ்மிருதியையும் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் மதவெறியர்கள், ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட மக்களை அழிப்பதில் குறியாக உள்ளனர். என் அன்பான தொண்டர்களே, சாதி எனும் தீமையை வேரறுக்குமாறு உங்கள் அனைவரையும் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன். சாதிகள் ஒழிக்கப்பட்டு வேரோடு பிடுங்கப்படும் வரை, சமூகத்தில் எந்த மாற்றமும் சாத்தியமில்லை.
சீர்திருத்தங்கள் தேவை
பெண்களின் அடிமைத்தனத்திற்கு எதிரான போராட்டம் நமது கூட்டு முயற்சிகளால் தொடர வேண்டும். இந்தக் குறிப்பிட்ட விஷயத்தில் நாம் இன்னும் நீண்ட தூரம் பயணிக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது. பாலினப் பாகுபாடு ஒழிக்கப்பட்டு, பெண்களின் அதிகாரமளித்தல் செழிக்க வேண்டும். பெண்களுக்கு ஆண்களுக்கு இணையாக அனைத்து உரிமைகளும் வழங்கப்பட வேண்டும். அவர்கள் பெரிதும் விரும்பப்படும் பதவிகளிலும் நிலைகளிலும் அமர்த்தப்பட வேண்டும். அவர்களுக்கு சொத்துரிமையும், மிக உயர்ந்த அளவிலான கல்வியறிவும் இருக்க வேண்டும். பெண்களின் அடிமைத்தனத்தை ஆதரிப்பவர்கள் புறக்கணிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். பெண்கள் ஒருபோதும் ஆண்களை விடத் தாழ்ந்தவர்களாகக் கருதப்படக்கூடாது. விதவைகளின் மறுமணங்கள் வரவேற்கப்பட வேண்டும். பெண்கள் தங்கள் விருப்பப்படி வாழும் உரிமை பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும். திருமண வாழ்வில் ஒத்துப் போகாத நிலை ஏற்பட்டால், விவாகரத்து பெறும் உரிமையும் இதில் அடங்கும்.
தீண்டாமை தண்டனைக்குரிய குற்றமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். அனைத்து சாதியினருக்கும் கோயில் நுழைவு உரிமையாக இருக்க வேண்டும். பிறப்பின் அடிப்படையிலான பாகுபாடு எங்கும் இருக்கக்கூடாது. உயர் சாதியினரின் அனைத்து சுரண்டல்களும் முடிவுக்கு வர வேண்டும். குழந்தை திருமணங்கள் தடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும் மற்றும் சுயமரியாதை திருமணங்கள் ஊக்குவிக்கப்பட வேண்டும். இத்தகைய சீர்திருத்தங்களை எதிர்ப்பவர்கள் மதவெறியர்கள், அவர்களைப் புறக்கணிக்க வேண்டும்.

என் அன்பான தொண்டர்களே, நண்பர்களே மற்றும் நலம் விரும்பிகளே, பிராமண ஆதிக்கத்திற்கு எதிராகத் தீவிரமாகப் போராடுமாறு உங்கள் அனைவரையும் கேட்டுக்கொள்கிறேன். பிராமணக் குழுக்களின் சாதி மேலாதிக்கத்தைக் கண்டிப்பதற்காக நான் உருவாக்கிய சொல் இது. மதவெறியர்களால் திணிக்கப்படும் படிநிலை ஏற்றத்தாழ்வைப் புறக்கணியுங்கள். 'அனைவருக்கும் எல்லாம்' என்ற கொள்கையை எப்போதும் வலியுறுத்துங்கள். நம்மைச் சுற்றியுள்ள மதவெறியர்களின் அச்சுறுத்தல்களுக்கு ஒருபோதும் அஞ்சாதீர்கள். எல்லா நேரங்களிலும் அச்சமின்றி முன்னேறிச் செல்லுங்கள். உங்கள் போராட்டம் அமைதியானதாக இருக்க வேண்டும் – ஒருபோதும் வன்முறையாக இருக்கக்கூடாது. நாம் இந்தியாவின் அனைத்து மாநிலங்களுக்கும் உத்வேகத்தின் ஊற்றாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.
தளராத பொறுமை
நம்மை ஒடுக்கி வரும் மதவெறியர்கள் அனைவரையும் தோற்கடிக்க நமக்கு அளவற்ற மனவுறுதி தேவை. எங்களுக்குப் பதவிகளிலோ நிலைகளிலோ ஆர்வம் இல்லை. எந்தவிதமான தேர்தல் ஆதாயத்தையும் நாங்கள் விரும்புவதில்லை. எங்களுடையது ஒரு மக்கள் இயக்கம். நாங்கள் எப்போதும் சாமானிய மக்களுக்காகவே பாடுபடுவோம்.
இன்று இந்த மாநாட்டில் (09.12.1973), தமிழ் சமூகத்தைச் சீரழித்து வரும் மதவெறியர்களைக் கண்டித்து எனக்கு முன்பாகப் பேசிய வீரமணியின் உரையை நீங்கள் கேட்டீர்கள். அவருடைய சிறந்த உரை உண்மையிலேயே சிந்தனையைத் தூண்டுவதாக இருந்தது. என்னுடைய கருத்துக்கள் மற்றும் எண்ணங்கள் அனைத்தையும் அவர் அதில் வெளிப்படுத்தியிருந்தார். அவர் கூறியதைத் தாண்டிச் சொல்வதற்கு என்னிடம் பெரிதாக ஒன்றுமில்லை. ஆயினும், உங்கள் அனைவரையும் மகிழ்விப்பதற்காகவே நான் பேசுகிறேன்.
அன்பு நண்பர்களே, நான் தொடக்கத்தில் கூறியது போல், நாம் அனைவரும் அசைக்க முடியாத பொறுமையுடன் போராடி, அனைத்து நச்சு சக்திகளையும் நசுக்குவோம். பிராமணர்களைத் தவிர்த்து, தமிழ்நாட்டில் நான்கு கோடி மக்கள் 'சூத்திரர்கள்' என்ற களங்கத்துடன் பிராமணர் அல்லாதவர்களாக உள்ளனர்! அவர்களுக்கு எதிராகப் போராடி பத்தாயிரம் பிராமணர் அல்லாதவர்கள் கைது செய்யப்பட்டாலும், மதவெறியர்கள் அனைவரும் நொறுங்கிப் போவார்கள். நாம் அனைவரும் கூட்டு முயற்சியுடன் போராடி, நாம் ஒரு வெல்ல முடியாத சக்தி என்பதை நிரூபிப்போம். நம்மை இழிவுபடுத்தவோ, தரக்குறைவாக நடத்தவோ யாரையும் நாம் ஒருபோதும் அனுமதிக்க மாட்டோம்.
