5,000 year old iron age civilization of Tamil Nadu
Sivakalai, July 11: It has been confirmed now that the iron artefacts unearthed
from the Sivakalai archaeological site in Thoothukudi district belong to the period
of BC 2,500 to BC 5,000.
The iron artefacts were sent to the laboratories in Lucknow and Ahmedabad to
determine the period. The artefacts from Sivakalai have been determined to
belong to the period of BC 2,500 to BC 5,000. So, the iron age of ancient Tamils
is confirmed to be 5,000 years old.
The Indus Valley civilization, which is a copper age civilization, is thought to
belong to a period between BC 3,250 to BC 1,500. But it has been confirmed
now that around the same period there was an iron age civilization in Tamil
Nadu. Therefore, the civilization of the Tamils is more advanced than the Indus
Valley civilization. It can be believed that the continued excavations will bring out
the antiquity and greatness of the civilization of the Tamils.
More than 10,000 signs used in ancient Tamil Nadu to write the Tamil language
have been found. Out of this, 8,000 signs have been documented.
