Proper journey of The Rationalist -Self Respect Movement, demanding due rights through comprhensive coverage of resolutions, passed at the historic occasion

In the history of social revolution of India, more so of Tamil Nadu, the contributions of the Self-Respect Movement, the fore-runner organization of Dravidar Kazhagam, founded by Periyar E.V.Ramasamy (1873-1979) would occupy much of its space both directly and indirectly. The First State Conference of Self-Respect Movement of Madras Presidency held at Chengalpattu in 1929 and the resolutions it passed had changed the direction of the social history of this land  more meaningfully.  Despite, the translation of much of the resolutions, passed at the 1929 conference in various stages by the political rulers of this land during the pre as well as post independent periods, still there are many social areas wherein the impacts of the Conference resolutions have to reach qualitatively and quantitatively to adequate extent. Any one who analyses the social history of India cannot ignore the proceedings of the Conference held in 1929.

From then onwards, the Social Revolutionary Movement of Periyar and its latest organization, Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) (1944) has conducted many Conferences under the ideological heritage of  the 1929 Conference. All these Conferences have focused to the attention of the public and the political rulers of the State and the Centre and have given directions original as well as corrective to decide the destiny of the population of the land. Such Conferences of DK have stimulated  a lot of turbulations to the rulers who remained as strong impediments, restraining the social and cultural progress and prosperity of the country, There are instances to quote the significance of the emphasis, realized by the political rulers of the land after meeting political debacles owing to the non heeding of the appeals, made through such conferences. The analytical research of the various resolutions passed at DK’s Conference would become a document of social conditions prevailing in this land, infected with the social malady and the consequential remedy provided to improve the conditions.

With such historical background of organizing conferences, DK convened its latest State Conference for 2 days on 19th and 20th March 2016 at Periyar World situated at Siruganur, Trichy, Tamil Nadu. The theme of the Conference was oriented on two vital agenda of the social liberation and progress of the country. The first day Conference was on the theme, Eradication of Caste-Untouchability and the second day’s was on Social Justice.

First Day Conference Theme
‘Eradication of Caste – Untouchability’

The first day Conference commenced with DK’s flag hosting by Dr.Pirainuthal Selvi, Treasurer, DK amidst the thousands of the black shirt cadres. A photo exhibition, depicting the history of Justice Party and Self-Respect Movement under the single banner of Dravidian Movement and the achievements made by it was organised. The Exhibition was inaugurated by Justice P.R.Gokulakrishnan, former Chief Justice of High Court of Gujarat. Self Respectful V.Anburaj, General Secretary welcomed all the dignitaries, the cadres and the public. The first day Conference was inaugurated by Self – Respectful S.Arivukkarasu, Presidium Chairman, DK. Poet Kali.Poonkundran, Vice – President presided over the proceedings.

Unveiling the Portraits of Stalwarts of Dravidian Movement

The portraits of the pioneer as well as the prominent stalwarts of Dravidian Movement were unveiled. The portraits of Thanthai Periyar was unveiled by Self-Respectful R.Athiaman (President, Federation of Adhi Tamils), Annai Nagammaiar – Maniammaiar’s by Self-Respectful Pothanur K.Shanmugam (President, The Periyar Self Respect Propaganda Institution), Arignar Anna by Thiru K.N.Nehru (District Secretary, DMK and Former Minister, Government of Tamil Nadu) and the Leading Stalwarts by Self Respectful Rajagiri G.Thangarasu (Member, Chief Executive Council, DK)

The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr.Ulrike Niklas, Periyar International – Germany delivered the special address.

In the noon session seminar on the title, ‘Let us Repudiate Caste and Religious Fanaticism! Let the Flag of Social Justice Fly High’ with the participation of university students’ leaders was held.

Self-Respectful Prince Ennares Periyar, Secretary, State Students’ Wing, DK presided over the seminar. Thiru Ananda Krishnaraj (Research Scholar, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi) Thiru.K.Ramesh (Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle, IIT-M, Chennai), Thiru.K.Harisankar Nachimuthu (President, Students’ Union, Pune) Selvi.T.Agnes Amala (Research Scholar, Central University of Hyderabad, Telangana), Thiru G.Prasad (Co-ordinator, Students’ Science Forum,  Andhra-Telangana) and Thiru.Siva Sankar – Archaka Trainee  of Agamas participated in the seminar and addressed.

In the afternoon ‘Resolutions Passing’ was held. Self Respectful V.Kumaresan, Secretary-External Relations, DK presided over the session.

Self Respectful Manjai Vasanthan, State Secretary, Periyar Rationalist Cultural – Literary Wing welcomed. 18 resolutions proposed and seconded by the functionaries of DK and its wings were passed unanimously.

In the evening, seminar on ‘Eradication of Caste – Untouchability’ was presided over by Dr.Durai Chandrasekaran, General Secretary DK, Self Respectful Thanjai R.Jayakumar, General Secretary welcomed. The prominent speakers and functionaries spoke at the seminar: Advocate S.Kumaradevan on ‘Protection to Caste in Indian Constitution’, Dr.K.Anbalagan on ‘Right of Appointment of Archakas of all Castes’, Self Respectful Rama Anbalagan on ‘The imprint of DK on Eradication of Caste’,  Advocate Poovai, Pulikesi on ‘Brahminical hegemony – BJP & Sangh Parivar’ and Self Respectful Thanjai R.Periyar Selvan on ‘Caste Politics’.

The valedictory session was addressed by Saivathiru M.P.Sathyavel Muruganar, who had impleaded himself in the appeal case on the appointment of archakas  of all castes (in favour of the duly trained archakas) filed at Supreme Court of India. Thiru.V.V.Swaminathan, Former Minister of Hindu Religious and Charity Endowments, Government of Tamil Nadu) spoke for the appointment of duly trained archakas of all castes.

The valedictory address of the first day Conference was delivered by Asiriyar Dr.K.Veeramani, President, Dravidar Kazhagam elaborately, covering the contents of the resolutions, passed which do bear direct relevance to the societal needs.

The Conference proceedings were intermittent with cultural programmes like dance, drama, song singing by the various teams depicting the progressive ideology of DK.

Second Day Conference Theme
‘Social Justice’

The Conference on ‘Social Justice’ was presided over by Asiriyar Dr.K.Veeramani. The Conference was inaugurated by Prof.K.M.Kader Mohaideen, President, Indian Union Muslim League, Tamil Nadu.

The portraits of the Revolutionary Ambedkar was unveiled by Justice D.Hariparanthaman, former Judge of High Court of Madras, the portraits of Mahatma Jotiba Phule – Savitribai Phule by Prof. Dr.P.Kalimuthu, Education Philanthropist Kamaraj by Bishop Rev. Ezra Sargunam.

The Chief Guest was the fifth generation grand daughter of Mahatma Jotiba Phule, Ms.Neetatai Hole Phule (President, Mahatma Phule Social Institute, Pune) and she addressed.

Next was the seminar on ‘Let us achieve Social Justice’. Session on ‘Resolutions-Passing’ was presided over by Advocate A.Arulmozhi, Propaganda Secretary, DK. 25 resolutions covering the current aspect of Social Justice and its dispensation in future were proposed and seconded by the functionaries and cadres of DK.

In the valedictory session 3 Tamil books were released on Periyar’s Thoughts, Speeches of Dr.K.Veeramani, Achievements of Justice Party and one in English ‘Periyar and Ambedkar’.

Rahul Gandhi, Vice President, Indian National Congress, Hon’ble Thiru. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, Respectful Thiru. Sharad Yadav M.P.,  President, National President , Janata Dal (United) Party, Respectful  Thiru.K.C.Tyagi M.P., Secretary General, Janata Dal (United Party) sent their Message of Greetings to the State Conference of DK and the messages were read at the conference.

The special address of Social Justice Conference was delivered by Thalapathi M.K.Stalin, Tresurer, DMK.

Asiriyar Dr.K.Veeramani, who leads the Periyar Movement delivered elaborate address covering all the aspects of Social Justice towards which the entire mission has to march ahead.

The two day Conference was attended by thousands of blackshirt cadres as families from the entire parts Tamil Nadu and other States. The grandeur of the DK’s Conference proved its mettle, reminding its core role and responsibility for the social liberation and progress of the toiling population who were enslaved for so many centuries in the name of god and religion. The Conference, became historic in the annals of social revolution of the country. `

விஜயவாடா,  ஜன.7-_ ‘‘‘கடவுளை மற, மனிதனை நினை’ எனும் தந்தை பெரியாரின் தத்துவப்படி அறிவியல் பார்வை என்பது கடவுள் நிலை மறுக்கப்படும் நிலையில்தான் முழுமையடையும். மனிதனை முன்னேற்றப் பயன்படும்’’ என தமிழர் தலைவர் ஆசிரியர் கி.வீரமணி அவர்கள் ஆந்திர மாநிலம் விஜயவாடாவில் நடைபெற்ற 9 ஆம் உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாட்டினைத் தொடங்கி வைத்து உரையாற்றுகையில் குறிப்பிட்டார்.

விஜயவாடா நகரின் பத்தமடா பகுதியில் அமைந் துள்ள சித்தார்த்தா கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரி கலையரங்கத்தில் இரண்டு நாள் நிகழ்ச்சியாக - ஜனவரி 6 மற்றும் 7 ஆகிய நாள்களில் ஆந்திர நாத்திகர் கோரா நிறுவிய நாத்திகர் மய்யம் ஒருங்கிணைந்து நடத்தியது. நார்வே, ஜெர்மனி, அமெரிக்கா, கனடா ஆகிய நாடுகள் மற்றும் நாட்டின் அனைத்து மாநிலங்களிலிருந்தும் நாத்திகர், பகுத்தறிவாளர், மனித நேயர் அமைப்பினைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள் பெரும் திரளாகப் பங்கேற்ற மாநாட்டினை ஜனவரி 6ஆம் நாள் தொடங்கி வைத்து தமிழர் தலைவர் அவர்கள் எழுச்சிப் பேருரை ஆற்றினார்.

தமிழர் தலைவர் தமது தொடக்கவுரையில் குறிப் பிட்டுப் பேசியதன் சுருக்கம்:

இந்த உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாடு ‘அறிவியல் பார்வை மற்றும் மதச்சார்பின்மையின் தேவை’ (The Necessity of Scientific Outlook and Secularism) எனும் கருத்துப் பொருள் (Theme) ஒருங்கிணைப்புடன் ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. ‘அறிவியல் பார்வையின் தேவை என்ன?’ என்பது இன்றைய நிலையில் மட்டுமல்ல; மனித இனம் இவ்வுலகில் தோன்றிய காலம் முதற்கொண்டே கேட்கப்பட்டுவரும் கேள்வியாகும். எதையும் கேள்வி கேட்டு ஆராயும் மனப்பான்மையே அறிவியல் பார்வையின் அடிப்படைக் கூறாகும். வெறும் நம்பிக்கையினைச் சார்ந்த பார்வையும், கடைப்பிடித்தலும் மனிதரிடம் _ குறிப்பாக ஆத்திக மனப்பான்மை உள்ளோரிடமும் நிலவி வந்தாலும் அவர்களிடமும் அறிவியல் பார்வை பற்றிய கண்ணோட்டம் மற்றும் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியின் மூலம் ஏற்பட்ட வசதி வாய்ப்புகளை _ அதன் பலன்களை அனுபவிக்கும் நிலைமையும் தொடக்கம் முதல் இருந்தே வந்துள்ளது. வெறும் நம்பிக்கை சார்ந்தோரால், கேள்வி கேட்டு வளர்ந்த அறிவியல் பார்வையினால் ஏற்பட்ட விளைவுகளைப் புறக்கணிக்க முடியவில்லை.

கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை என்பது நம்பிக்கையின் பாற் பட்டது. கேள்வி கேட்கும் அணுகுமுறைக்கு கடவுள் நம்பிக்கைகள் இடமளிப்பதில்லை. ஆனால் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியினால் ஏற்பட்ட வசதி வாய்ப்புகளை, கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை சார்ந்த சூழல் பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ள என்றும் தயங்கியதே இல்லை.
எடுத்துக்காட்டாக, நாட்டிலேயே பணக்காரக் கடவு ளாகக் கருதப்படும் திருப்பதி வெங்கடாசலபதி கோயிலில், ஆகம விதிகளுக்கு உட்பட்டு உள்ளதாகக் கூறப்படும் கோயிலில் கருவறையில் ஆகம விதிகளில் குறிப்பிடப்படாத அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சி சார்ந்த குளிரூட்டும் வசதி ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. குளிரூட்டும் சாதன வசதி ரிஷிகள் கண்டுபிடித்ததல்ல.

ஆன்மீகவாதிகள் யாரும் நம்பிக்கையின்பாற்பட்ட கடவுள் வழிபாட்டு இடத்தில் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியினால் ஏற்பட்ட வசதி கூடாது எனக் கூறுவதில்லை. கோவில் நிர்வாகமும் ஆகம விதிகளில் குறிப்பிடப்படாத அறிவியல் வசதி வாய்ப்பினைப் புறந்தள்ளுவதில்லை. மேலும் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியின்மூலம் விளைந்த தொலை பேசி, செல்பேசி பயன்பாடு இன்றி எந்த ஆன்மீகவாதியும் இன்று இருக்க முடியாது. கடவுள் எங்கும் உள்ளார் (omini present) எனக் கூறிக் கொண்டே கடவுள் வழிபாட்டிற்கு அறிவியல் கருவியான ஒலி பெருக்கி (loud speaker)யினைப் பயன்படுத்தி வருகிறார்கள்.

உலகப் புகழ்பெற்ற நாத்திக அறிவியலாளர் ஸ்டீபன் ஹாக்கிங் ((Stephen Hawking) உடன் இணைந்து The Grand Design எனும் புத்தகத்தினை எழுதிய பேராசிரியர் லியோனார்டு மிலாடினோவ்(Leonard Mlodinow) தாம் எழுதிய ‘‘நேரிடை நேர்மைச் சிந்தனையாளர்’’ (The Up right Thinkers) எனும் புத்தகத்தில் குறிப்பிடுகிறார்:

‘‘பழங்கால மனிதனிடம் இறைச்சியினைச் சமைக்கும் மின் அலை அடுப்பினைக் கொடுத்திருந்தால், அடுப்பிற்குள்ளே சிறு அளவிலான கடவுள் கூட்டம் அடுப்பைப் பற்ற வைத்து உணவைச் சமைக்கிறது. அடுப்பைத் திறந்தவுடன் அக்கடவுளர் கூட்டம் மறைந்து விடுகிறது என கற்பிதம் செய்திருப்பான்.

கி.மு.4000 ஆண்டு காலத்தில் நகர் சார்ந்த வாழ்விடங்கள் உருவான காலத்தில், விரைவான பயண வழிமுறை என்பது ஒரு மணி நேரத்தில் சில மைல்களைக் கடக்கும் ஒட்டகப் பயணமே என இருந்தது. கி.மு. 2000 - 1000 காலக் கட்டத்தில் சக்கரம் தாங்கிய ரதப் பயணம் (மணிக்கு 20 மைல் செல்லும்) விரைவான பயணத்திற்கான வழிமுறை என்றாகியது.

பின்னர் கி.பி. 19ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு வாக்கில் மணிக்கு 100 மைல் பயணம் செல்லத்தக்க நீராவி நகரும் என்ஜின் நடைமுறைப்பட்டது. இப்படி 2000 ஆண்டு இடைவெளி காலத்தில் மணிக்கு 10 மைல் வேகப் பயணம் 100 மைலாக மாற்றம் கண்ட நிலையில், வெறும் 50 ஆண்டு கால அளவில் இந்நிலை 10 மடங்கு அதிகரித்து மணிக்கு 1000 மைல் பயணம் செய்யும் நிலை 1980 வாக்கில் அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சி மூலம் உருவானது. மேலும் மணிக்கு 17000 மைல் வேகத்தில் செல்லும் விண்வெளிப் பயணமும் சாத்தியப்பட்டது.

மற்ற அறிவியல் தொழில்நுட்பத்திலும் குறிப்பாகத் தொலைத் தொடர்பிலும் பரிணாம வளர்ச்சி ஏற்பட்டது. 19ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு வாக்கில் ராய்ட்டர் செய்தி நிறுவனம், நகரங்களுக்கிடையிலான பங்குச் சந்தை விலை விவர பரிமாற்றத்திற்குப் புறாக்களையே பயன்படுத்தி வந்தது. 20ஆம் நூற்றாண்டு காலத்தில் தொலைத் தொடர்புக்கு தொலைபேசி பயன்பாடு ஏற்பட்டது. மக்கள் தொகையில் 75 விழுக்காட்டினரிடம் தொலைப் பேசி பயன்பாடு நடைமுறையாக்கம் பெற 81 ஆண்டுகள் பிடித்தது. ஆனால் இருபத்து எட்டு ஆண்டுகளிலேயே செல்பேசி பயன்பாடு மக்களிடம் அதே அளவு பயன்பாட்டினை எட்டியது. 13 ஆண்டுகளில் ஸ்மார்ட் பேசி அந்த வளர்ச்சியினைப் பிடித்தது. அண்மைக் காலத்தில் மின்னணு ஆற்றல், செய்தி அனுப்பிடும் தொலைத் தொடர்புக்கு, தொலைபேசி மற்றும் செல்பேசிப் பயன்பாட்டினைப் பழமையாக்கி, அதனை மட்டுப்படுத்தியது. இதன் மூலம் தொலைத்தொடர்புச் சாதனமான செல்பேசி, பேசுவ தற்கான கருவி எனும் நிலையிலிருந்து சட்டைப் பையில் வைத்துப் பயன்படுத்தும் கணினி எனும் கருவியாக மாற் றம் கண்டது.’’

இப்படி அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சி என்பது மனித வாழ் வில், மானிடப் பயன்பாட்டிற்கு, இலகுவான வசதியுடன் கூடிய வாழ்க்கை முறைக்கு பயன்படும் நிலைக்கு வந்துள்ளது. இந்த வளர்ச்சியின் மூலம் உருவான கருவிகள் எதுவும் கடவுள் கண்டுபிடித்தவை அல்ல; வெறும் நம்பிக்கை சார்ந்த கடவுள் விஷயத்தினை விடுத்து, கேள்வி கேட்கும் பகுத்தறிவினால் கிடைத்த விளைச்சலே இப்படிப்பட்ட அறிவியல் கருவிகள். அத் தகைய பகுத்தறிவினால் விளைந்ததே நாத்திகம் _ எதை யும் கேள்விக்கு உட்படுத்திப் பார்க்கும் அணுகுமுறை. இத்தகைய அறிவியல் மனப்பான்மையின்மை பெருக்கு வதை இந்திய அரசமைப்புச் சட்டத்தில் 51எ(எச்) பிரிவு குடிமக்கள் ஆற்றிட வேண்டிய அடிப்படைக் கடமை யாக வலியுறுத்துக்கிறது.

அரசமைப்புச் சட்டம் வலியுறுத்தும் அறிவியல் மனப்பான்மையானது நாட்டில் நிலவிடும் சமூக, பொருளாதார மற்றும் அரசியல் நிகழ்ச்சிகளை, தெய்வீக விதிப் பாடாகக் கருதாமல் உள்ளீடு செய்து, ஆய்வு மேற்கொண்டு, கருத்துடன் கவனித்து தொடர்பு படுத் திப் பார்க்கும் போக்கிற்கு நம்மை அழைத்துச் செல்லும்.

வாழ்வில் அனைத்தையும் துறந்ததாகக் கூறும் சந் நியாசிகள், அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சியின் மூலம் கிடைத்திட்ட வசதி வாய்ப்புகளை துறக்க முடியவில்லை. எளிமையான நிலையிலிருந்து அறிவியல் தாக்கத்தினால் அதிதொழில் நுட்ப(பிவீ-tமீநீலீ) சந்நியாசியாக உயர்வு, மாற்றம் பெற்றுள்ளனர்.

அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சி மனித மேம்பாட்டிற்குப் பயன்படும் அந்த வேளையில், அறிவியல் தொழில்நுட்ப கருவிகளின் மூலம் செய்தி மின்னணு ஊடகங்கள், தொலைக்காட்சி அலைவரிசைகள் மக்களிடம் _ குறிப் பாக குழந்தைகள் மற்றும் இளைஞரிடம் அறிவியலுக்குப் புறம்பான மூடநம்பிக்கை, ஜோதிடச் செய்திகளைப் புகுத்தி வருகின்றன. இதை எதிர்த்துப் போராட வேண்டிய பொறுப்பு நாத்திக, பகுத்தறிவாளர் அமைப்பி னருக்கு உள்ளது. மூடநம்பிக்கைகளை ஒழித்து, ஏற்றத் தாழ்வுகளைப் போக்கி கண்ணியத்துடன், சுயமரியா தையுடன் வாழ்ந்திட அறிவியல் வளர்ச்சிப் போக்கினைப் பயன்படுத்தும் நிலைகள் பெருகிட வேண்டும்.

இந்த உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாட்டின் அடுத்த நோக்க மாக மதச் சார்பின்மை அமைந்துள்ளது. மதம் எந்த அளவிற்கு மக்களிடையே வேறுபாட்டினை, அடிமைத் தனத்தினை வளர்த்துள்ளது _ ஏற்றத் தாழ்வினை ஏற் படுத்தியுள்ளது என்பதனை வரலாறு நன்றாகவே உணர்த்தியுள்ளது. இதனை உணர்ந்துதான் இந்தியா அரசியல் விடுதலை பெற்று, நாட்டினை ஆட்சி செய்திட, உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அரசமைப்புச் சட்டத்தில், அரசு மதச்சார்பற்ற தன்மையுடன் செயல்பட வேண்டும் என முகப்புரையிலே தெளிவாகக் குறிப்பிடப்படும் சூழல்கள் உருவாகின.

மக்களை ஆட்சி செய்திடும், மக்களால் தேர்ந் தெடுக் கப்பட்ட அரசும் அரசமைப்புச் சட்டம் கூறும் மதச்சார் பற்ற தன்மையில், எந்த மதமும் மனிதரை அடிமைப்படுத்தி, வேறுபடுத்திப் பார்த்திடும் போக்கி னைக் களைந்திடும் வகையில் செயல்பட வேண்டும். அதற்கான வலியுறுத் தலை, அரசினர் போக்கினை நெறிப்படுத்துகின்ற வகை யில் நாட்டில் உள்ள நாத்திக பகுத்தறிவாளர் அமைப்புகள் செயல்பட முன்வர வேண்டும்.

உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாட்டிற்கு வருகை தந்த இந்நாட்டு, பன்னாட்டு பேராளர்களை வரவேற்று நாத்திகர் மய்யத்தின் தலைவர் திருமதி மைத்ரி உரையாற்றினார். மாநாட்டில் ஜெர்மன் நாட்டு சுதந்திர மனித சிந்தனை யாளர் அமைப்பினைச் சார்ந்த முனைவர் வோல்கர் முல்லர் தலைமை உரை ஆற்றினார். தமிழர் தலைவரின் தொடக்கவுரைக்கு முன்பாக மாநாட்டின் சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் மராட்டிய மாநில அந்தசிரத்த நிர்மூலன் சமித அமைப்பின் தலைவர் அவினாஷ் பாட்டீல் உரை யாற்றினார். பின்னர் மாநாட்டின் மாண்பமை விருந்தி னர்கள் ராபர்ட் ரஸ்டட் (நார்வே), ஆல்பிரட் ஹரால்ட் பெட்ஜோல்டு (ஜெர்மனி) ஆகியோர் உரையாற்றினர்.

மாநாட்டு பிற்பகல் நிகழ்ச்சியில் அண்மையில் தமிழகத்தில் சென்னை மற்றும் கடலூர் பகுதிகளில் ஏற்பட்ட மழை வெள்ளப் பேரழிவின் பொழுது திரா விடர் கழகம் ஆற்றிய மீட்புப் பணி, உதவிப் பணி, நடத் திய மருத்துவ முகாம்கள் பற்றிய ஒளிப்பதிவு ஆங்கில விரிவுரைப் பின்னணியுடன் மாநாட்டுப் பேராளர் களுக்குத் திரையிட்டுக் காட்டப்பட்டது. திரையிடலுக்கு முன்பாக தமிழர் தலைவர் திராவிடர் கழகம் ஆற்றிய பணி மற்றும் தந்தை பெரியாரின் பகுத்தறிவுரை முழக் கமான “கடவுளை மற, மனிதனை நினை’’ எனும் நடை முறையின் பிரதிபலிப்பாக திராவிடர் கழகப் பணி, மற்றும் மனிதநேயத் துளிர்வு அமைந்தது என குறிப்பிட் டுப் பேசினார்.

மாநாடு தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்னதாக விஜயவாடா நாத்திகர் மய்யம் ஏற்பாடு செய்திருந்த ஒளிப்படக் கண்காட்சி திறக்கப்பட்டது. நார்வே நாட்டு மனித நேய அமைப்பின் தலைவர் ராபர்ட் ரஸ்டட் கண்காட்சியினை, தமிழர் தலைவர் ஆசிரியர் மற்றும் நாத்திகர் மய்யத்தின் செயல் தலைவர் முனைவர் ஜி.விஜயம் ஆகியோர் முன்னிலையில் திறந்து வைத்தார். நாத்திகர் மய்யத்தின் 75 ஆண்டு காலத்திற்கும் மேலான செயல் பாடுகள், நடத்திய மாநாடுகள் பற்றிய ஒளிப்படங்கள் இடம் பெற்றிருந்தன. தந்தை பெரியாருடன் கோரா கலந்து கொண்ட நிகழ்ச்சிகள், தமிழர் தலைவர் பங் கேற்ற நாத்திகர் மய்ய நிகழ்ச்சிகள், திருச்சியில் திராவிடர் கழகம் நடத்திய உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாட்டு ஒளிப் படங்கள் பல பார்வைக்கு வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தன.

பிற்பகலில் மாநாட்டு நோக்கத் தலைப்பில் கருத்த ரங்கம் நடைபெற்றது. மாநாட்டு நிகழ்ச்சிகள் இரண்டா வது நாளாக ஜனவரி 7ஆம் நாளும் தொடருகின்றன.  உலக நாத்திகர் மாநாட்டில் தமிழ்நாட்டிலிருந்து திராவிடர் கழக, பகுத்தறிவாளர் கழகப் பொறுப்பாளர்கள் மற்றும் தோழர்கள் பெரும் திரளாகச் சென்று பங்கேற்றனர்.

American Humanists’ Association organized  the celebration of the 137th Birthday of Periyar 17th October 2015.

Nachimuthu Socrates welcomed the audience and presented a brief account of the  development of Periyar Movement in US.

Betshi : The thoughts of Periyar on Feminism must receive further focus and attention for the real progress of women folk. Such progress is within the fold of initiatives and endeavours of women as advocated by Periyar.

Anbu: Periyar’s  attack on the social oppression is not superfluous. It is deep rooted. It aims at the origins of the cause which had pertuated many evils in the society.

Ajay Kumar’s deliberation was unique and different by pointing out certain social evil practices prevailing  earlier but not now due to the propagandist task of Periyar like the abolition of Devadasi system, equal treatment of women, the deletion of caste identity as the suffix in the individuals’ names.

Rajaram (Editor – ‘Thinnai’ e-magazine): One who sowed the seed may not be alive to reap the harvest of fruits and taste them. Dr.Soma Ilangovan: Periyar 1000 events are being conducted in more than 360 centres by the Centre of Periyar Thoughts, Periyar Maniammai University to sow the rationalist seeds in the minds of youngsters and it is laudable. Periyar International has been propagating the ideals of Periyar by instituting an award, K.Veeramani’s Award for Social Justice and presenting it to the social justice stalwarts who have contributed to the cause. Germany Chapter of  Periyar International would be commenced in July 2016 along with the convening of International Rationalist conference in Colon, Germany.

The significant features of celebration were, many of the Rationalists and humanists books published by Periyar Self-Respect Propaganda Institution, purchased enthusiastically by the audience and the vibrant gesture prevailed in them for the cause of propagating the rationalist ideals of Periyar.

NORTH AMERICA: PERIYAR FESTIVAL IN GURUDWARA

On 4th October 2015, the 137th birthday festival  of Periyar was celebrated  at Sri Guru Ravidas Gurudwara situated in Fresno, nearer  Los Angeles in USA. The celebration was organised by the Sikh International.

Periyar thoughts, the historically important editorial written by Periyar in the Rationalist Tamil magazine ‘Kudiarasu’, condemning the death sentence pronounced on Bhagat Singh by the British rulers of India was read and deliberated at the festival.

It was made known that   many prominent leaders of 1930’s did not come forward to save the life of Bhagat Singh. Dr.Amrik Singh, Bhajan Singh Binder, M.P.Singh of Sikh International spoke about Periyar on the occasion. This is the first time, Periyar festival is celebrated in Gurudwara.

A series of murders of agnostics, and rationalists is not a case of mere homicides but a deep – rooted malady of religious fundamentalism. Voice of dissent and advocacy of rationalism are very well permitted in a democratic way of life. Much against this, if rationalists like M.M.Kalburgi are murdered what the Sahitya Academy Awardees have done.

Once the novelist Nayanta Sahgal surrendered her Sahitya Academy Award, many have followed suit and the latest one is Mr.Kasinath Singh, a Hindi novelist. It is he who has already forewarned the advent of Hundutva when Mr. Narendra Modi decided to contest in the Parliamentary election at Varanasi. Even from state – level Sahitya Academics, the awardees started surrendering the Awards along with the prize – money offered.

An argument that the Academy at Delhi is all autonomous organization and it has nothing to do with law and order problems happening elsewhere carries no weight. As a national body in its apex level, it could have condemned the outright killings of academicians, thinkers and intellectuals. Keeping mum for all these atrocious happening is not a healthy sign of its universality.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s argument that the prectest of the Academy Awardees is manufactured is rather untenable. Instead of being apologetic, he deviously defending the stand of the Government is unacceptable. Narendra Modi who has been vociferously and prompously addressing audiences should have the boldness to contain the communal forces and counsel the extremist elements that they should not distrupt the secularism and the basis ethos of pluralism in India.

WHO SNATCH VICTORY?

It is only natural that whether it is examination or election, all of us plan how to achieve victory.  Is it enough to only wish? Can we harvest without sowing the seeds?  We should develop strong will required before starting the efforts to achieve it.  The attitude should become very mature.  Only then we can accomplish anything as planned.

Only he who recites in his heart several thousand times, " I shall win, I shall achieve success" and who believes so alone, can enter the gateway of victory.  We should move towards the target with the firmness, saying to ourselves, "The task I have undertaken is not easy but still I shall achieve victory. 

I shall not stop until I achieve victory.  " In the same way as much confidence as Tenzing and Hillary who reached Everest had, before climbing Everest, get into your job and do not get disheartened.  Could they have achieved victory if they had thought feared and hesitated, " Is it the top of the Himalaya? Can we climb and reach Everest?"

Just reflect on it, my dear friends.  Do not take it slightly that it is a journey through a desert.  The path is very clear, camel for the journey is ready first.  Now the oasis will be somewhere near.  If we work hard thinking that even the journey through the desert is just a picnic, then the fruit of victory is on your lap.  Sing then the song by Thara Bharathi, " It is foolish to consider that the hand is just a hand; it is investment to treat the hand as that has ten fingers."

Act after planning thoroughly, the results will take you to the heights of v ictory.  There is nothing that is called a goal which cannot be reached! Go high on the spirit with the adornment of modesty but with a stout heart asserting who can achieve what I cannot, and breaking all the obstacles that come on the way.  Those sitting in a park cannot achieve anything who consider sitting in the park as a tough journey through a desert.  Go forward keeping the team spirit as your first capital.  Think we, not putting forward I for anything and everything. 

Spend time more cautiously than you spend your treasured assets.  Do everything, considering the importance of time.  Work hard till the very end.  Insects, and rats may spoil even a good harvest.  Therefore do your duties concentrating your attention in it. Victory, always victory! Realize that it is not a play, but a serious act.
